Birdwatching

BIRDWATCHING (Ó Cáinte, Gale)
Peacock struts his stuff as he’s walking down the street
Ruffles his tail feathers. “Hey, everybody, look at me!”
In his natural habitat, he’s expecting to be seen
On the dancing streets of Galway, he’s the king of bonhomie
Mockingbird is strumming all the latest from the pop charts
Well maybe this is it for her, maybe it’s good start
She’s hitting all the higher notes, the beautiful people flock the bars
On the singing streets of Galway, she’s the queen of her guitar
(We’re watching) in the city on a summer night
(We’re watching) in the city of a million shining lights
(We’re watching) in the city until morning takes flight
(We’re watching) all the birds on a wild, wild, wild summer night
Eagle watches warily as the wild ones start to circle (we watch the world go by)
Happy hens hold handbags, cockerels crow nocturnal (tonight’s the night we fly)
He ensures the people here are not getting into any harm
On the stormy streets of Galway, he’s the king of keeping calm
(We’re watching) in the city on a summer night
(We’re watching) in the city of a million shining lights
(We’re watching) in the city until morning takes flight
(We’re watching) all the birds on a wild, wild, wild summer night

Swimming

SWIMMING
Let’s go swimming in the ocean
Salt and sea spray on our skin
It feels like years since we have been here
It feels like years since we jumped in
Hear our crew laugh as they splash
Liquid sunshine through the air
It’s been too long since we have been here
It seems like years since we jumped in
And here today means you and me
Here any day means you and me
Dog’s Bay will always mean you and me
These days always mean you and me, oh
Let’s go swimming in the ocean
Let’s go swimming in the ocean
Driving home as the sun gets tired
Its rays still tangled in your hair
It says “This woman is one of us
Like Sol and Apollo years ago.”
And here today means you and me
Here any day means you and me
Dog’s Bay in the sun means you and me
Dog’s Bay in the rain means you and me
These days will always mean you and me
These days will always mean you and me, oh

Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON
I want to go to the Grand Canyon
It’s a cliché, I know
There’s something about the world out there
Makes me want to go
‘Cos it’s bigger than me
And it’s bigger than us
I want to go to the Grand Canyon
Where that river flows
We’d take a left after Angel Trail
Up to the plateau
Where the rocks burn bright red
And the sky is dark blue
I want to go to the Grand Canyon
Life’s all about journeys
And what we do here
Life’s all about seeing the smaller things disappear
It’s spending our time with those we love
And feeling a part of something more
And I know that these memories would not shine so bright without you
‘Cos it’s bigger than me
And it’s bigger than us
I want to go to the Grand Canyon
It’s a cliché, I know
We’d make our way out on Skywalk Bridge
Just as far as we can go
Take us through the air
With the stars in the sky
And the stars in your eyes
I want to go to the Grand Canyon

Out Of Sight
03:58
|
|||
You see the flashes go off, lights around her so bright
But you knows she wants most things kept away out of sight
I’m still running in the shadows, though I’m moving from the night
Trying to keep all the darker things far away out of sight
A moment in time
Is like shining a light
You illuminate one truth
Leave the rest out of sight
A cavalcade of clowns saying it’s all going fine
While shadows in the darkness keep the truth out of sight
Truth is the one thing that can make fools of us all
What they want us to see here, what they keep out of sight
A moment in time
Is like shining a light
You illuminate one truth
Leave the rest out of sight
Truth is the one thing that can make fools of us all
What they want us to see here, what they keep out of sight
What I want you to see here, what I keep out of sight
A moment in time
Is like shining a light
You illuminate one truth
Leave the rest out of sight

Late To The Party

|

LATE TO THE PARTY
Truth is a guest always late to the party
Makes us feel that something isn’t quite right
When they arrive, something rises within you
Asleep for a long time out of sight
Truth is the truth even when it’s not seen
Blows like the wind, concealed in plain view
Bumps into chairs in the calm of the night
The sun behind clouds as it’s trying to break through
It can cut like a knife from the pain of the lie
When it comes into view and it’s easy to see
But it also can help us realise what is true
Then we can be just who we should be
‘Cos truth is a guest always late to the party
And I guess the truth is never free
And truth is a guest always late to the party
And I guess the truth is never free
It’s always the lie that hurts us the most in the end
Truth, the one thing that shows the way
And truth answers questions we don’t always like to ask
Truth is a guest always late to the party
And I know the host of this party is me

Again

AGAIN
So I’m walking with my friends, trying to see how all this ends
Get back on my feet again
And the people rushing by, laughing, singing to the sky
Searching for your face again
But I know deep in my heart that there’s really not a chance
Of ever seeing you again
‘Cos you have gone from here just as quick as you appeared
I’m back here on the floor again
Baby, I don’t know
Baby, I don’t know what’s right or wrong
Baby, I just know
Baby, I just know the blues play on
And my friends are here beside me, all just say I’ve got to get free
Fly up to the sun again
It doesn’t matter what they say ‘cos the night still rules my day
Want to see your smile again
And the idea that this place remains a happy space
Like a joke from Bad Comedian
‘Cos you have gone from here just as quick as you appeared
I’m back here on the floor again
Baby, I don’t know
Baby, I don’t know what’s right or wrong
Baby, I just know
Baby, I just know the blues play on
And I fall back down every time I get back up
And I don’t know what to do, I just give up
And we’re walking in the city, the night comes down
I’m dancing to the beat again
And last night we caused a riot and I don’t really know why
But I’m dancing to the beat again
Even though the night outside with the stars shining bright
My soul is in the darkest place
‘Cos now that you are gone, don’t know how I’m moving on
But I’m dancing to the beat again
Baby, I don’t know
Baby, I don’t know what’s right or wrong
Baby, I just know
Baby, I just know the blues play on
Now that you are gone
The world’s alive but I don’t really care
‘Cos though I’m moving on, this place is dark because you are not here

Wait A Minute

WAIT A MINUTE
Mayhem at the breakfast table
While the sun is shining through
One minute ‘til you’re Traffic Cop
Showing all just where to go
Bookworm gets her bag together
Whirlwind makes her case
Couldn’t Care Less throws a ball at me
Little King just makes a face
Work will have to wait a minute
School will have to wait a minute
Life will have to wait a minute
While the memory takes hold

Deep Blue

DEEP BLUE
We take the ferry to the island with the sun lighting the way
Blue skies, no wind, cut-glass sea, it feels so good to be onboard
Bringing heavy bikes onto the boat, leaving heavy life back on the shore
All of us here taken in by the magic of it all
This place gets to the soul of me, this place gets to the heart
When I see its coast as we glide to the island under stars
Spin the wheel, everyone’s a winner here, diving in the deep blue
Laying here with you today, we just breathe
This place gets to the soul of me, this place gets to the heart
When I see its coast as we glide to the island under stars
You can’t help but just smile, you can’t help but just be
This place gets to the heart of me, this place gets to the soul
Breathe, breathe, breathe…

Pushing Through The Door

PUSHING THROUGH THE DOOR
You were the first to arrive and the first to leave
You left with Bowie and Rumours, a pink box full of dreams
We walked in convoy up Newtownsmith
Passing Sally Longs where the rock gods looked on
We were pulling along bags full of the past
Walking slowly in the present, still moving too fast
Lifting your world now up the spiral staircase
Where your future is waiting. a new door to walk through
In the way that you shine,
The way that you shimmer
There are echoes of older days
There are echoes of my mother
I always knew that today would come
So I made sure that I’d be there for as long as I could
And I know when we closed that old door at home
And by pushing through the new door on your own
Saying “That’s all for now, I’ll give you a call.”
I don’t know why this has floored me, I just know that it has
I don’t know why this has floored me, I just know that it has
In the way that you shine
The way that you shimmer
There are echoes of older days
There are echoes of your mother
There are echoes of home (echoes of home)
There are echoes of me (echoes of me)
In the way that you shine (way that you shine)
In the way you will be

HEADING FOR THE CITY LIGHTS
Johnny Flash kicks off the rhythm where everyone can hear him
On a glorious Saturday night
And we’re walking down the street, feel the heart-exploding beat
And we’re heading for the city lights
You see everybody’s dancing, laughing or romancing
All dressed up sharp as a knife
And the young kids on the corner watching everything in wonder
As the festival bursts into life
And you know the time has come to let our souls break free
Watching as the night sky lights the way for you and me, yeah
Baby, the stars burn bright heading for the city lights
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Sally Shine heads for the square as the people stop and stare
She’s so pretty on this Saturday night
And the energy we feel moving towards the Ferris Wheel
And we’re heading for the city lights
You see the people in the sky, some are screaming, all are high
As it lifts to the where the stars all appear
Doesn’t matter what they’re thinking, either swimming or they’re sinking.
Everybody’s on the same journey here
And you know the time has come to let our souls break free
Watching as the night sky lights the way for you and me, yeah
Baby, the stars burn bright heading for the city lights
Yeah, yeah, yeah
